The Zion Genealogical Society (ZGS), established in 1979 and sponsored by the Zion-Benton Public Library, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting family history research. Serving Zion and neighboring Lake County communities—including Waukegan, North Chicago, and Gurnee.

The 10 Million Names project is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to recovering and restoring the identities of up to 10 million individuals of African descent who were enslaved in America between the 1500s and 1865.

By combining genealogical research, historical records, and community collaboration, 10 Million Names empowers African Americans to trace their lineage, honor their ancestors, and preserve their cultural heritage.

FUNDING

Small Business Association

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers a range of funding programs to support entrepreneurs and small businesses. These include SBA-guaranteed loans like the 7(a) loan for general business purposes, the 504 loan for purchasing fixed assets, and microloans up to $50,000 for startups and small enterprises.

Additionally, the SBA provides disaster assistance loans to help businesses recover from declared disasters. While the SBA does not offer grants for starting or expanding businesses, it does provide grants to nonprofits and educational organizations that support small business development.
