African Zebra Masks

African Zebra Masks

Jayla (Student)

Sometimes, African masks look like animals and are used in dances for weddings, funerals, and initiation rites. This mask is an example of a zebra mask from Kenya.
Kenya is a country in East Africa and is the 27th most populous country in the world.

The so-called “Big Five” animals of Africa are the lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant. The zebra is a part of this famous wildlife too.

African animal masks have also inspired masks of similar style in places as far as Indonesia, in the Asmat region.
