Welcome to
The African American Museum
at The England Manor

African-American history was created with the arrival Africans to North America in the 16th and 17th centuries.

FEATURE IN HISTORY

August is a significant month in Black history for many reasons, including the arrival of enslaved Africans in Virginia in 1619 and the passing of the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833. It also includes Black August, a month-long commemoration of Black resistance and freedom fighters that began in California prisons in the 1970s.
